Haute couture in Milan

A garment that does not exist before you

At the Maison Bourelly atelier there are no collections to choose from and no sizes to adapt. Every gown begins with a meeting and takes shape around a single woman: her figure, her bearing, the way she moves, the occasion the gown will share with her.

This is women’s couture in its most complete form: a sketch drawn for her, a pattern drafted from scratch, silks and lace chosen together from the collections of the great mills, and the fittings that bring the gown, step by step, to its balance.

A garment does more than clothe a body. It receives its posture, its gestures, its way of being in the world.

The creations

Occasion wear, evening gowns and bespoke tailleurs

For ceremonies, important evenings and everyday life, the atelier makes the entire women’s wardrobe to measure.

  1. 01

    Occasion dresses

For the mother of the bride, bridesmaids and guests, for christenings, anniversaries and celebrations: a dress that carries the whole day with measured elegance.

  2. 02

    Evening and red carpet gowns

Lines and fabrics conceived for light, movement and presence: for a premiere, a gala, a red carpet.

  3. 03

    Tailleurs

A jacket with a skirt or trousers, built on the figure: tailoring rigour and femininity in balance.

  4. 04

    Silk blouses

The lightness of silk, the precision of bespoke: collar, cuffs and fit defined for her.

  5. 05

    Coats

Tailored volumes and fabrics chosen to last, built to move with the wearer.

  6. 06

    Headpieces

The detail that completes the figure and defines its character, designed together with the gown.

The method

How a bespoke gown is made

From the first meeting to the final fitting, six moments mark the making of every creation. None of them can be skipped.

  1. A client in a long printed gown in the atelier salon
    01

    The meeting

A private conversation, at the Milan atelier or at your residence. We speak of the occasion, the place, the season and of you: of what the gown must express, even before how it should look.

  2. Hand-drawn fashion sketches pinned to the workshop wall
    02

    The sketch

From shared ideas comes the drawing: line, volume, neckline, length. The sketch, drawn by hand, is the gown’s first portrait, refined together.

  3. Paper patterns annotated by hand, laid on pink fabric
    03

    Fabric and pattern

Silks, satins, lace and tulle are chosen: weight, drape, transparency and colour. Meanwhile the measurements become an original pattern, drafted from scratch on her figure.

  4. 04

    Handwork

The fabric is cut on the pattern and the gown takes shape in the atelier: draping, appliqué petals, pleating and finishing are done by hand.

  5. Fitting of a brocade gown at the atelier
    05

    The fittings

Usually three fittings. At each one the balance, the fall of the fabric and the freedom of movement are checked on the body, down to the last detail.

  6. Ivory Maison Bourelly garment bag hanging on the green door of the atelier
    06

    The delivery

The gown is complete and belongs to one woman alone. The pattern is kept at the Maison, ready for every future creation.

A necessary distinction

Bespoke or from a collection: what is the difference

Many ateliers offer collection gowns: a model chosen from a catalogue and adjusted with a few alterations. A bespoke gown is instead created from nothing, for one person alone. In truth, these are three very different ways of dressing a woman.

What haute couture means

Haute couture describes the creation of one-of-a-kind garments, conceived and made by hand in the atelier for a single client. It is the principle on which the Maison Bourelly womenswear line is founded.

The making

What cannot be seen is felt when worn

An original pattern

Drafted for you and kept at the Maison: every new creation starts from a form already perfected, even years later.

Handwork

The most delicate work, from inner structures to draping to finishing, is done by hand: it is what makes a gown fall like no other.

Three fittings

The gown comes closer to the person step by step, until it reaches its final balance: lines, volume, drape, movement.

The cloth

Silks, lace and fabrics from the great mills

The first gesture of a gown is the choice of material. We work with the collections of Taroni and Ratti, masters of Italian silk, with the lace and tulle of Maison Sophie Hallette and Solstiss, and with many other mills, chosen for quality and character.

The founder

Nora Bourelly

Founder of Maison Bourelly

Trained at Istituto Marangoni, with studies in sociology and psychology and experience gained within the world of Armani, Nora Bourelly built her path in private tailoring, in a direct and discreet relationship with every client.

In 2025 she founded Maison Bourelly in Milan, where the Italian tailoring tradition and haute couture meet a careful reading of the person: the garment as a language, elegance as the correspondence between who one is and what one wears.

Frequently asked questions about bespoke gowns

What is the difference between a bespoke gown and a collection gown?

A collection gown is a catalogue model, produced in series and adjusted with a few alterations. A bespoke gown starts instead from a sketch and an original pattern drawn for one person, and is built by hand with fittings while it is being made. Maison Bourelly creates bespoke garments exclusively.

Do you make occasion dresses for the mother of the bride and for guests?

Yes. Dresses and tailleurs for the mother of the bride, bridesmaids and guests, and for christenings, anniversaries and celebrations, made with the same method as every other creation.

Can I bring an idea, a photo or a reference?

Yes: images, references and ideas are an excellent starting point for the first meeting. The design is then developed together, in the sketch and in the choice of fabric.

How many fittings are there?

Usually three fittings, spread over the construction of the gown. Each one refines balance, fit and movement.

How long does a bespoke gown take?

Timing depends on the gown, the fabric and the fitting schedule, and is agreed at the first meeting. For a ceremony or an event with a fixed date, it is advisable to contact the Maison well in advance.

Which fabrics can I choose from?

Silks by Taroni and Ratti, lace and tulle by Maison Sophie Hallette and Solstiss, and the collections of many other mills. The choice is made together, according to the occasion, the season and the client’s preferences.

What does haute couture mean?

Haute couture describes the creation of one-of-a-kind garments, conceived and made by hand in the atelier for a single client, from a design drawn for her. It is the principle on which the Maison Bourelly womenswear line is founded.

Can fittings take place at my residence or abroad?

Yes. Appointments take place at the Milan atelier or, on request, at the client’s residence, in Italy and abroad.

How much does a bespoke gown cost?

Every gown is a unique project: its value depends on the fabric, the complexity of the work and the number of pieces. The proposal is presented personally at the first meeting.

How do I book a first appointment?

By filling in the form at the bottom of this page, or by writing on WhatsApp or by email. The Maison personally contacts every client to arrange the meeting.
